This 2021 Solar S1.6FRFBR in Flame Blood Red Matte is a purpose-built modern shred guitar designed around speed, stability and a huge range of high-gain tones. The aggressive Type S body combines an alder body with a flame maple veneer, finished in deep transparent red that lets the figuring show through while black binding and hardware give the whole guitar a sharp, almost weaponized appearance.
The fast maple neck uses Solar’s full-access set-neck construction, giving the guitar the smooth upper-fret access normally associated with neck-through designs. An ebony fingerboard, 24 super-jumbo stainless-steel frets and a relatively flat 13.78″ radius make it particularly well suited to fast lead work and low action. The 25.5″ scale also works especially well with this guitar’s current setup.
A pair of Duncan Solar humbuckers provides everything from articulate cleans to tight, aggressive high-gain sounds, with a five-way selector providing more tonal flexibility than the usual two-humbucker layout. The Floyd Rose 1000 double-locking tremolo, locking nut and Solar locking tuners keep things stable when the trem gets put to work.
This particular guitar is currently set up and tuned to D Standard with 10-46 strings, making it ready to go for heavier, lower-tuned material without immediately having to rebalance and set up the Floyd.
The Flame Blood Red finish, matching headstock, black hardware and oversized Solar logo at the 12th fret make this one unmistakably a Solar. It includes the fitted hardshell case shown in the photos.
